Pet Friendly Catskills Vacations

Bring Your Pet Along, the Catskills are Pet-Friendly.

Dogs are man’s best friend, and pets are chosen and beloved members of our families. Leaving your furry companions behind when you head out for an adventure can be sad. Even though you’re having the time of your life, there’s a little piece of your brain back at home with Fido, wondering if he’s bored or lonely.

Instead of suffering through pet withdrawals, consider taking a pet-friendly vacation and bring your trusted companion with you to the Catskills! The region is home to plenty of pet-friendly adventures that both you and your dog/cat/pig can enjoy together. When it’s time for you and Mr. Whiskers to hit the open road for your next quest, consider these four pet-friendly itineraries.

Pet-Friendly Vacation Ideas

The Great Northern Catskills

Play – Home to two of the largest Catskill Mountains, this region is perfect for taking your pup on a scenic hike. Whether you climb to the top of a peak to take in the beautiful views below, venture to one of the Catskills many stunning waterfalls, or just take a walk on a wooded trail, a day spent in the Catskills wilderness will put a pep in your step and a wag in your dog’s tail.

Drink – After you’ve worked up a thirst, head to Crossroads Brewing Co.’s Catskills Taproom. Their outdoor patio, open in warmer months, is pet-friendly! Sample their brews, crafted right there onsite, and relax with a pint of your favorite. While they don’t serve food, they do welcome outside food, and specialty food trucks occasionally make a visit.

Stay – Rest your feet and paws after a long day of exploring at Roseberry’s Inn in Hunter. Their pet-friendly lodging will make you feel right at home, and it’s within walking distance of Hunter Mountain, home to some of the region’s most popular attractions. Call ahead for specifics on their pet policy.

Ulster County

Play – Ulster County is the place for pet-friendly water adventures in the Catskills. Your four-legged friend will have a blast cruising down the Hudson River in a canoe or kayak, or feeling the wind in their fur as you jet along in a motorboat. If they lack sea legs, enjoy a day at the beach instead. There are several in the region where you can play Frisbee, go for a swim, and enjoy a picnic.

Eat – Give your pet the ultimate treat of a tasty ice cream cone at Alleyway Ice Cream. Watching your pup lick up one of their homemade, small-batch ice creams will be almost as satisfying as indulging in a scoop or two yourself. Made with Hudson Valley Fresh milk, you know you’re getting a true taste of the Catskills. Or, if you and your pet follow a vegan diet, enjoy a cashew milk ice cream instead.

Stay – Cozy up with your canine companion in Audrey’s Farmhouse B&B, one of the most luxurious pet-friendly accommodations in the Hudson Valley. While your pet lounges in the sunroom, soak yourself in the pool or Jacuzzi. Be prepared for the begging that will ensue when you dig into your gourmet breakfast in bed! If you’re spending the weekend, pack your pet’s finest collar for the Saturday night cocktail party.

The Sullivan Catskills

Play – The home of American fly fishing, there is no better place to cast a line than the Catskills. Take your faithful companion out in a boat or let them explore the riverbanks while you wade into the water in pursuit of your next big catch. The best part about having a pet as a fishing buddy? They’ll never correct you if you exaggerate just how big that fish was!

Eat – You might be forced to share your crust if you go for pizza at Benji & Jakes in Kauneonga Lake. With two decks overlooking White Lake, and a diverse menu that offers some of the most creative brick oven pizzas you’ll ever see, it’s the perfect Catskills restaurant to enjoy a bite as the sun slips below the horizon. And, while you enjoy a cocktail, craft beer, or glass of wine from their upstairs bar, your canine can enjoy a drink from one of the provided dog bowls.

Stay – Spend some quality time with your pet under the stars at Jellystone Park at Birchwood Acres. This pet-friendly campground offers far more than just a place to put your tent. Enjoy all the amenities of a modern resort with the ambiance of a traditional camping experience. Your dog can go for a dip in the 4-acre pond while you go for a swim in the pristine in-ground pool. Pets may need to sit out the planned activities and arts and crafts, but it’s a fun bonus for you!

Great Western Catskills

Play – Explore the flavors of the Catskills on a self-guided craft beverage tour. The Great Western Catskills boasts two local cideries, a brewery, and a distillery. While your pet can’t take part in the sampling, they can accompany you to multiple locations and help you sniff out the best brew. Wayside Cider and Union Grove Distillery both welcome leashed pets.

Eat – Binnekill Tavern in Margaretville has been a regional landmark for decades. Recent changes in ownership, along with a new head chef, have put this hot spot back on the map. In addition to being pet-friendly, they also serve an incredible array of creative, high-quality cuisine. You’ll be far too pleased with what’s on your plate to give in to pleading eyes poking out from below the table.

Stay – Relax with your pet at Hubbell Hill Haven. Situated atop a hill on 10.5 acres, this lovely country home provides a warm welcome and cozy accommodations for you and your canine companion. Minutes away from some of the region’s top entertainment, it is also a peaceful place to escape and reconnect with nature. Start your morning with a walk through the wooded property to a pleasant little stream and waterfall.

Why leave your pet at home when you could enjoy the vacation of a lifetime with them at your side? Thanks to its wealth of outdoor recreation and pet-friendly establishments, the Catskills is an easy and fun place to travel with your most loyal of companions. Whether you hike, paddle, fish, or explore the region’s craft beverage offerings, you and your four-legged friend are sure to enjoy the adventure of a pet-friendly vacation in the Catskills.
