NYS Phased Reopening
The state has been divided into several regions to allow for each part of NY to open in coordination with the phased reopening guidelines that have been set forth by the NYS government and Governor Andrew Cuomo. The counties that are represented by Visit the Catskills include Greene, Delaware, Sullivan, and Ulster County. Not all of these counties were placed within the same reopening regions by the state. So, to clear things up for curious Catskills visitors (and locals) looking to start planning trips or outings around the phased openings, please use the below guide to reference where each of our represented counties are located within the phased reopening regions.
- Delaware County: Southern Tier Region
- Greene County: Captial Region
- Sullivan County: Mid-Hudson Region
- Ulster County: Mid-Hudson Region
Please refer to the NYS Regional Monitoring Dashboard for the most up-to-date phase for each county.
Social Distancing Activities
If you are in the Catskills and currently practicing social distancing, we want to help you be outdoors safely and responsibly. Many of our outdoor recreational activities promote solo or small family outings, including:

A bike ride through quiet, rural countryside is just the sort of thing that calms the mind and feeds the soul. Grab your road bike and explore your backyard in the Catskills this spring.
Long live the scenic Sunday drive! Explore the Catskills’ charming landscapes from the comfort and safety of your car as we weather COVID-19. Be sure to take notes on local businesses and shops to visit once things start to open again.
For a calming day on the water, grab your own kayak or canoe and explore the Catskills’ waterways. From rivers to lakes, explore the scenic shorelines of famed waterways throughout the Catskill Region.
A popular solo outing during the spring, fly fishing in the Catskills is still open. Plan on gear shops being closed however, so using your own gear is key. From the Delaware to the Neversink, find a good spot away from others to cast a line.
From mountain twisties to wide country routes, there’s nothing more freeing than the feeling of taking a scenic drive through a beautiful area. Discover the Catskill’s top roads for motorcycle rides.
We recommended for everyone’s safety and health that you carry hand sanitizer and wear a facemask or face covering when you leave your home. Additionally, follow all CDC and local public health guidelines, including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 to 95 percent alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid contact with sick people.
